Despite population and job growth, South Dakota lacks sufficient childcare supply to meet demand. For many families, securing quality affordable childcare is an uphill battle. Spink County is not immune to the impacts caused by a lack of childcare capacity. Locally we have a total of 13 childcare businesses. Unfortunately, a majority of our current childcare providers have indicated they are either no longer accepting new enrollments or have waitlists that are 1 to 2 years out.

Our goal is to create a long-term solution for the childcare challenges we curretnly face in Spink County by offering reliable and enriching childcare services to working parents. Spink County Daycare is positioned to meet the growing need for dependable, high-quality childcare in Redfield and surrounding areas. By focusing on exceptional care and strong community relationships, we will create a trusted space where children thrive.
The Spink County Daycare Project began in the fall of 2023 when Grow Spink was awarded the GOED State Childcare Planning Grant. In the Spring of 2024, Grow Spink was awarded the GOED State Childcare Implementation Grant in the amount of $245,000 which encouraged local our economic development organizations to move forward with the purchase of the former Wells Fargo Building. We are currently fundraising for renovation expenses (see campaign flyer).
